LOWMAN PIPELINE PROJECT

Delivering Clean-burning Natural Gas to Southwest Alabama

The Lowman Pipeline is a proposed approximately 51 mile natural gas pipeline in Southwest Alabama that will supply clean-burning natural gas to the Lowman Energy Center, a newly constructed gas fired power plant owned by PowerSouth Energy Cooperative and expected to be in service in mid-2023. As an intrastate pipeline, the project will be regulated by the Alabama Public Service Commission and permitted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The Lowman Pipeline will be developed, constructed, owned and operated by a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC.

The Lowman Pipeline will receive gas from existing pipelines located in Choctaw County, Alabama, and extend south to the new Lowman Energy Center in Washington County, Alabama. The Lowman Pipeline will provide access to low-cost natural gas produced in the Gulf Coast and Appalachian regions of the United States – for delivery to the modernized Lowman Energy Center.  The proposed pipeline will be 16 inches in diameter, which will require approximately 50 feet of permanent easement and up to 90 feet of temporary easement during construction. The proposed project will require one compressor station that will be located in Choctaw County. Construction of the project is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021 following receipt of all necessary approvals and permits.
